Modal auxiliaries are verbs that is meant to express intention, ability, possibility, necessity, permission, and obligation. Each one has special word(s) to express this. The first one is for intention, the word is will. The one for ability is can. The one word for possibility is might. The word for necessity is must and the word for permission is may. The last ones for obligation are
should, could and would. Examples of this are: I will find the coin by tomorrow. This is intention type of verb. An example of the sentence with an ability verb is: I can finish the project in time. The example of a possibility verb is: I might borrow the computer for second. Example of necessity: I must complete homework for science and math. May I become a member of the group? Here is an example of permission. An example of obligation is: I could help you with your drawing. Another example is: I should be an artist when I grow up. The last example is: Would you become an artist or an actress? This is three examples of obligation for the modal auxiliaries that expresses intention. There is more than just these modal auxiliaries verbs.Yes there is more! But I am not go to list these modal auxiliaries verbs because I am just showing the ones listed above. These verbs are way easier than subjunctive mood (learned previous) and there is only a few verbs to memorize. This is what I learned this week. A current event for the week, May first through May fifth is actually two events! First on May second, Harry Styles released a new song from his first and upcoming album, Harry Styles. The song is called Sweet Creature. Sweet Creature is a uplifting, calm and relaxing song.
The ballad is a heart-warming touch and when you first hear it, it will make you feel in Hawaii, sipping a nice cold strawberry lemonade and sizzling in the hot sun. I love the rhythm and melody (I bet all the Directioners do). In the song, the lyrics are very straight forward. Here are some lyrics from the song: Sweet creature, sweet creature Wherever I go, you bring me home Sweet creature, sweet creature When I run out of rope, you bring me home. The song reached above the top ten and it just released a few days ago. The next song that released this week was Slow Hands sang by Niall Horan and it came out on May fourth. Slow Hands is a song unexpectedly sung from Niall Horan because his voice is so different and mature. His voice is nothing like the Niall from two years ago would develop (probably because of the management). It is a upbeat, funky and dance-to-song! The first you will hear, it will would make get up and dance all night and playing the song in repeat. Niall's song has lyrics that will put you up all night. Here are the AWESOME lyrics: Slow, slow hands Like a sweat dripping down that dirty laundry No, no chance That I'm leaving here without you want me up I know, yeah I already know that there ain't no stopping Your plans and those slow hands Slow hands. This is what happen this week! Last week, it was quite hard for me. But it is extremely simple which is completely why I love this lesson. The lesson is about three kind of verbs: simple, progressive, and perfect. Simple verbs have simple tense in the sentence. For example: The girl waved. The verb is waved and it is simple because there is no progression or perfect tense in it. Another example is: The boy will play. The verb is simple because will play isn't progressive or perfect tense instead it is simple. Pretty much simple verbs are easiest in this lesson because they come in any tense but simply easy to recognize if you see a simple verb. Now we are heading toward the progressive verbs. Progressive verbs are verbs that are made up of the auxiliary verb, be and the present participle (-ing ending) of the main verb. For example: The dog was playing. Was playing is the past progressive in the sentence and the progressive verb. Another example can be: Harry is singing. Is singing is the present progressive and the progressive verb in the sentence. The final example is future progressive: Harry will be singing. Will be singing is the progressive verb and as I said it is future progressive. Perfect verbs are verbs that have the verbs of has in them. A example of this is: She has a green apple. Has is the perfect verb because it is type of have verb. They come in different forms. But this is what I learned this week.
Want to learn more: http://www.cws.illinois.edu/workshop/writers/perfectforms Verbs are challenging and compilcated! This week, I learned about linking verbs. Linking verbs link the subject and a subject complement. Subject complement renames a subject. For example, 'She is a doctor'. 'She' is the subject and the subject complement is 'doctor'. 'Doctor' renames 'she'. But back to linking verbs, linking verbs are just basic VERBS. Here are some: is, are, been, was, appear, taste, stay, turn, become, grow, remain, grow, look, seem, will be, and many, many more. Linking verbs and action verbs are NOT the SAME! Note: linking verbs connects a subject and the predicate together. Action verbs give action to the subject. But linking verbs can be put into two categorizes which are intransitive and transitive. Intransitive and transitive are two different things but confuses a lot of people (including me). I would explain it but it is out of the main topic. Yet, linking verbs seem easy, it can be super hard to identify in a sentence. For me it was super complicated and a hard to understand what transitive and intransitive. So linking verbs can be easy and hard. Wow! Isn't this weird! How can linking verbs be hard and easy at the same time? Linking verbs can be easy when identifying the easy stuff. Sometimes, there is just one linking verb in ONE sentence. For example, "The girl is kind".
'Is' has to be the linking. But sometimes, there is two! For example, "The girl is kind and she loves birds". There is two linking verbs which was 'is' and also 'and'. But here is just some facts about linking verbs. Here is more info: https://www.englishgrammar101.com/module-3/verbs/lesson-3/linking-verbs March 25th. The day Zayn left One Direction. Now think about it, March 25, 2017. Sitting in my room watching Netflix and then suddenly news alert. Zayn released a new song featuring PartyNextDoor. I'm happy for Zayn but wait more news! Louis performed "Just Hold On". Yay! More Louis news but there's more. Liam and Cheryl had a baby boy. Gross! But there is better news than this: Harry released a trailer for his new song that comes out on April 7th. Now you might think wait what about Niall. Nothing happen to Niall. But four of five members of One Direction had major news! Major! First with Zayn, he released a song called "Still Got Time". It is such an awesome song. The beat matches with everything and the words match with the melody of song. Louis performing "Just Hold On" is also an event that happen during March 25th. Also days later, paying tribute to his mom on Twitter. So nice! Then Liam who is apparently ten years older to his girlfriend, Cheryl had baby boy together. Which doesn't seem so realistic to me. That haven't been together for a year and already have a son. I don't see it at ALL. Literally, moments after the baby has been announced;more news come! This time from Harry. Harry had trailer released. People say it is for an upcoming song. At the end, it says "April 7th". People guess this is when the song comes out. All of this happen in one day. ONE DAY! The only thrilling news that no one has heard from it is Niall. Well, let's see what happens this week!

It reveals about a scientist's discovery about trash. This is important because our oceans are polluted with garbage. The book talks about Hansa Carrier Sneakers spill, tub toys, and Ghost Nets. Hansa Carrier Sneakers spill was big thing because thousands of sneakers washed off the coast of Canada, Oregon, and California. The sneakers were all a brand of Nike which interested particular scientist, Curt Ebbesmeyer. This is special because Curt find out that the Nike company had lost five cargo containers of sneakers on a ship. Tub toys were also special about the book because Curt Ebbesmeyer and his friend, Jim Ingraham heard about a tub toys spill. It has meant that there might be thousands of toys floating somewhere. Can you imagine all this plastic toys and sneakers floating in the ocean? But it doesn't get better! In Hawaii, a ball of fish nets were found. The Ghost nets was what they were called. Supposedly, the trash trapped and hurt sea animals. These were some facts that shocked me. This is all important because all this trash pollutes the ocean and hurts animal. We should do something about this!
It made me look at trash so differently. I knew trash was polluting the ocean but I didn't know that fish nets hurt sea animals. When I look at trash now, it makes me think about how much one piece of trash can make a difference. I wonder how we can solve this world-wide problem. The facts surprised me a lot. The facts surprised me because I didn't know what kind of stuff was in the ocean. I knew there was trash in the ocean. But I didn't know there was Nike sneakers or tub toys. I guess that this book was really helpful because it helped to realize that one act make a big difference in the world. Which means nothing should be put in the ocean. Everyone should take care of the society! Learning about verbs was very easy until I met transitive and intransitive verbs. It was the second lesson in verbs. Obviously, the first lesson was way easier than the other. Verbs show action or state of being, right. The first lesson was about irregular verbs and their principles like base, past, past participle, and present participle. Some irregular verbs examples are play/played/have played/playing, wade/waded/ace waded/wading, and eat/ate/have eaten/eating. Yet, those were a piece of cake. It was not hard! Which is good in this case! A transitive verb is when an action that passes from a doer to a reciever. The receiver of an action is a direct object. The doer is the one receiving the action. Some transitive verbs can be phrasal verbs. Phrasal verbs are combination of the main verb and a preposition. But some can have an adverb and a preposition phrase. Examples of this are: get down, put on, burn down, drag out, heads up, watch out, and look after. But an intransitive verb does not contain a receiver to the action. But I find this challenging for me but some people might find this a piece of cake.
